The Indiana University Players are excited to kick off their next season with the new timely comedy, “Abraham Lincoln’s Big, Gay Dance Party,” written by Aaron Loeb. The production will make its Bloomington premiere on October 21 in the John Waldron Arts Auditorium. ALBGDP opened in December of 2008 to rave reviews at the San Francisco Playouse and an original, undergrad production will be sweeping IU’s campus this fall. The play offers three different perspectives of a trial in rural Menard County Illinois where a school teacher is being prosecuted for having her class perform, as a Christmas pageant, some of the quietly ignored moments in American history. This production offers an outrageous comedy: influenced by vaudeville, infused with original, live music from a jug band, and informed by scholarly discussion. This production features a production team and cast of talented and creative undergrad students at IU and is opening the doors to discussion of gay history for all ages, even in the Midwest. Keep following us right here for more information as the production gets underway and the national yelling match over equal rights continues to heat up.
